It has been over a year since my last blog post. Here's new post on NGC 5107.

NGC 1136 – Higher redshift companion. (Not the most exciting of discordant redshift systems.)

IC 1767 – QSO pair alignment

Ari, your webpage reminded me of a paper I read from the 70s by a Norwegian or Finnish astronomer (his name escapes me). I think it appeared in Astronomy and Astrophysics and in it he proposed black hole gravitational slingshots as an explanation of galaxy ejecta. Have you seen the paper? Might be of interest. However, he only considered pairs or triplets but nonetheless may be of interest.

From this subject area first Finnsih scientist that comes to my mind is Toivo Jaakkola. I don't remember seeing that kind of paper from him, though.

A search for Jaakkola led to Valtonen who's the chap I was thinking of. He's been talking about this sort of thing since the 70s I think. Hope it's of interest.

Here is a paper of his that I think is terribly important but was overlooked:

http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1975Ap%26SS..37..301J

Essentially he argued you could look at the spectrum of a Quasar and predict whether it was a local QSO or a more distant QSO.  It would be interesting to see what modern data would show on this, but since nobody in the mainstream thinks that QSO's could be local, nobody has actually investigated this angle.

I hadn't heard of Karachentsev before. Is this the translated tome you used: Double Galaxies?

315  11 56.2  -01 10  277  14.12  1.35  0.57  Sb  0.32  -+     M  1327  11  K
___  11 56.2  -01 10   59  17.92  0.23  0.15  Sb                   M  6230  25  K

I'm having a bit of a tough time interpreting his views in The Problem of False Pairs section. (The tables seem missing from this translation)

No, I used the 1972 catalog version, as given in the reference section of my post. Thanks for that link. It seems that it might be good for me to do also a google search on these systems when writing posts.
